A repurposed vanity mirror displays the orangutan in her habitat. Behind her, an ideallic scene of vast nature and her family swinging at the tops of trees. The hand-sculpted frame is adorned with abundant native plants that would thrive in a healthy biome. Look deep into her arresting gaze, in the glint of her eyes, you are reflected. The mirror exposes you and you are confronted with what role you will play in this great scene. Will you be reflected as just a small portion of the world she experiences as you are in her eye? 
 
On the reverse, we see palm plantations burning, and overgrowth from invasive plants as humans have disrupted the natural cycle of life in the forest. Our faces prominent and visible in reflection like Gods looming down, exploiting and abusing the world we were given to share.
 
This piece's name sake was inspired by Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass." This was an examination of self, roles and relationship to the world around us.
